Position Summary:

This position is responsible for producing forum programs and live events for KPCC In Person in The Crawford Family Forum (CFF) and off-site in the communities around Southern California. The CFF is a broadcast-ready gathering space and is the physical manifestation of Southern California Public Radio (SCPR's) public service mission: a modern-day Town Hall for all Southern California. 

KPCC In Person is the centerpiece of SCPR's effort to bring diverse audiences together and encourage face-to-face discussion and dialogue as part of its multiplatform Content strategy. KPCC In Person produces a range of programming including live installments of KPCC shows Take Two, AirTalk and The Frame as well as events and activities aligned with the KPCC newsroom; and creates a much-needed environment for civic engagement, both at the CFF and around Southern California.  KPCC In Person fosters collaborations internally and externally to deepen relationships with existing audience and creating relationships with new and prospective audience. 

This is a four month temporary part-time (24 hours/week) position.

Position Responsibility:

  • Under the supervision of the Managing Producer and in conjunction with the KPCC In Person team as well as hosts, producers, reporters, and editors, conceive and execute the production of forum programs and live events that are consistent with SCPR's mission, strategic plan, and organizational standards with specific focus on Content initiatives and engagement activities.
  • Acquire new and steward existing relationships with audiences, potential moderators and/or panel guests, national, state and local government entities, as well as community organizations, civic leadership, the entertainment industry, the business community, other news organizations, and publishers through in-person and electronic methods.
  • In coordination with the Managing Producer, initiate and manage the acquisition, cultivation and stewardship of relationships with potential individual, community, and organizational partners through outreach and attendance to public and/or by-invitation forums, discussions, and events hosted by said individual, community, and organizational partners.
  • Individually lead and produce broadcast and/or non-broadcast events in the CFF and in the community in accordance with approved annual strategic goals. These events will be produced in collaboration with a variety of partners, including but not limited to News, Shows, Public Insight Journalism, and community organization partners. This includes identifying programmatic elements such as subject matter, conversation frames, and prospective guests as well as audience development and engagement opportunities.
  • Identify community- and content-appropriate offsite venues for original in-person content and/or partnership programs.
  • Represent the forum programs & live events team at news planning meetings as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in the field of liberal arts or journalism; OR equivalent work experience.
  • Five or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Familiarity and experience with community outreach efforts.
  • Experience in creating successful public events.

  • Radio and guest booking experience
