Position Summary:

Marketplace is on a mission to raise the economic intelligence of the country and we're looking for a Communications Manager to join our growing Brand team.

As the most listened-to business programs in the country, we connect the dots for our audience on the economy, tech and culture through unexpected angles on the news. The Marketplace portfolio of programs has nearly 15 million weekly listeners and we're rapidly scaling across digital and on demand platforms. We're looking for a public relations expert to define our communications function at Marketplace.

This role will be required to understand the Marketplace audience, products and talent across platforms broadcast, digital, podcasts and more and work with the Chief Brand Officer to shape communications strategy for each area. The position will be the primary contact with industry and consumer press, as well as with our partners at major conferences and events. Location: Los Angeles or Washington, DC


Position Responsibility:

  • Maximize Marketplace content through PR strategies and outreach.
  • Partner with cross-functional editorial teams to manage external. communications and uncover unique media angles.
  • Create media strategy and execute outreach around key Marketplace initiatives and enterprise priorities.
  • Draft key messages, content and press materials for various stakeholders.
  • Serve as spokesperson for the brand with media and third parties.
  • Work with the Chief Brand Officer to create communications strategy for Marketplace products and announcements.
  • Create and manage communications and events calendar.
  • Manage and execute PR efforts around breaking news and quick-turn efforts
  • Handle all inbound media inquiries.
  • Understand and implement sophisticated communications tactics in line with our goals and mission.
  • Partner with the Enterprise Leadership Team on internal communications efforts.
  • Create and manage visibility and external speaking calendars for key talent, including booking and staffing appearances.
  • Suggest communications partnerships and other opportunities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key outlets, conferences and partner
  • Manage media training and provide support for staff at media and event appearances.
  • Manage and track coverage.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing or relevant field.
  • Four or more years of experience in communications and public relations.
  • Proven track record of media relations wins, including with relevant trade outlets.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
