Position Summary:

Are you a business news junkie with a passion for producing and directing radio? The Marketplace Morning Report is looking for a dynamic Assistant Producer or Associate Producer I to join our fast- paced overnight shift producing content that reaches more than 10.8 million listeners. This role will work closely with the Overnight Producer to help produce the daily Marketplace Morning Report.  This position is responsible for directing the Marketplace Morning Report, contributing show ideas, researching show topics for host, scheduling guests, and providing production and maintenance. Our ideal candidate is enthusiastic about business news, energetic, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and who knows how to use music and sound to liven up a news show. This role is also responsible for arranging interviews and helping plan future news coverage and host remotes. The Assistant Producer or Associate Producer I will fill-in for and assist other Marketplace programs as needed.

 

This position requires the ability to work a regular, overnight shift with a start time of 2:00am.

 
Position Responsibility:

  • Directs the Marketplace Morning Report show rolls, creates rundowns, selects music, coordinates fixes, and manages archiving.
  • Books, produces and edits host interviews with high-profile guests.
  • Stays current with local, regional, national and international news.
  • Writes promos and scripts.
  • Creates, produces and develops regular show segments.
  • Performs hands-on production; cuts and edits audio, pulls news copy; schedules studio time.
  • Fields host Q&As outside of the studio, along with other show segments as required.
  • Initiates and researches story and segment ideas and concepts for program.
  • Writes introductions and prepares stories for broadcast, Internet and other platforms.
  • Contributes to Marketplace news calendars.
  • Performs administrative tasks, including: answering listener email, building and maintaining Rolodex for guests, creating daily rundowns, and tracking payment vouchers.
  • Helps plan coverage based on planning calendars and upcoming events.
  • Produces and directs during breaking news coverage.
  • Collects information from identified content sources for posting to the Web.
  • Researches sources/guests, background, context; proposes guests.
  • Supports hosts; may handle host travel logistics and editorial bookings.
  • Acquires permissions/licenses.
  • Directs the work of interns.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum one year of production, editorial or related experience

Associate Producer I level (in addition to the bullets above):

  • Three or more years' production, editorial or related experience
  • Broad experience in journalism, including writing, interviewing, and editing.

 
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Ability to work under deadline pressure.
  • Ability to work efficiently with limited direct supervision.
  • Ability to work well with diverse personalities on the show.
  • Ability to work independently and make story judgments with some supervision.
  • Knowledge of current events.
  • Ability to maintain productive and positive communication with co-workers.
  • Excellent language skills including writing, proof reading; fluent computer skills with the knowledge of basis Internet and computer standards, directory structures, and common applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with interns and colleagues in multiple departments/divisions.
  • Digital editing knowledge and skill.
  • Basic field production skills. 


Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of Lexis-Nexis.
  • Experience using ENPS or equivalent.
  • Digital editing: DALET and Pro Tools, or equivalent.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work a regular, overnight shift with a start time of 2:00am.
  • Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

    • Balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch
    • Frequent use of hands for data entry/keystrokes and simple grasping
