Who we are:

Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) is one of the nation's premier public radio stations producing programming for radio, digital and live audiences and operates a 46-station radio network serving nearly all of Minnesota and parts of surrounding states. Reaching 1 million listeners each week, MPR and its three regional services'MPR NewsClassical MPR and The Current'produce programming for radio, digital and live audiences. MPR marked its first half century of public service in 2017 with broadcast programming and special events on air, online and in person across the state.

Your role:

In this position, you'll work with cross-functional teams to develop and lead marketing strategies and advertising campaigns for regional MPR services that drive awareness, usage, and engagement with our brands, products and services.  As Marketing Specialist, you will primarily be responsible for the initiation and execution of advertising, and creative projects for assigned services. You are the team's day-to-day contact, driver of marketing projects and brand steward within the organization. We're looking for a well-rounded marketer with a solid advertising background to join our dynamic team.

Position Responsibility: 

  • Marketing account management of assigned multiple products/programs.
  • On assigned products/programs, act as liaison between stakeholders and the creative team to manage identified projects create briefs, establish timelines, gather complete information necessary for production, work with stakeholders on purpose and effectiveness of elements all geared toward bringing marketing plans to life.
  • Participates in the strategic brand, business, and marketing planning.
  • Provide thought leadership by keeping internal teams informed on important creative, media and business updates as it relates the brands/programs.
  • Identify opportunities and implement activities involved in partnerships, promotions, advertising, sponsorships and events.
  • Manage creative development, production, media planning/execution, legal approvals, stakeholder approvals, etc.
  • Manage the implementation of the media and trade programs including, placing ads, tracking deadlines, expense and revenues, and creative execution in a timely manner.
  • Monitor all budget, billing and production activity on assigned projects and communicate status of each project to supervisor
  • Support good ideas and ensures they come to life

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Advertising or related subject area
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in Marketing, Advertising or Media
  • Experience in managing multiple programs and clients
  • Experience in implementing multi-dimensional marketing projects, including special events 

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: 

  • Demonstrates the ability to lead projects independently; but works effectively to manage upwards and across the team
  • Demonstrated high degree of professional initiative and accountability
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and programs with a high degree of initiative and attention to detail
  • Competence in transitioning from detail-oriented tasks to seeing the bigger picture
  • Ability to thrive in the fast-paced, ever-changing and at times, very stressful, environment
  • Flexibility is essential
  • An enthusiasm for the product and company
  • A familiarity, general understanding and specific interest in public radio, its programs and audiences
  • Demonstrated high degree of professional initiative and accountability
  • Strong verbal communication, presentation and writing skills
    • Strong face-to-face communicator 

Preferred Skills and Experience: 

  • Advertising/agency account management experience
  • Experience in digital media and digital content distribution
