Marketplace is looking for an editor to join our expanding digital team. You'll become a part of a shop that's recognized as an industry leader in meaningful and creative storytelling. More than 14.8 million weekly listeners tune into our award-winning radio shows with Molly Wood, Kai Ryssdal and David Brancaccio. Now we're evolving into a multi-media enterprise centered around the ambition of raising the economic intelligence of all Americans. 

 

So, what's the job? The digital editor will ensure the highest editorial standards and cultivate the distinctive "Marketplace voice" as we significantly increase the amount of original enterprise reporting across digital platforms, including the website, newsletters, social media and more.

 

A successful candidate will be comfortable working across multiple media from text to audio to video to interactives. As needed, this editor will support the growth of additional digital products and data journalism with original research and writing.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Review all online copy published on Marketplace's digital platforms (including social media channels, videos, and graphic journalism), for errors of spelling, grammar, and usage.
  • Fact check all online original stories.  
  • Edit and write compelling headlines that echo the program's distinctive voice.
  • Research and write original copy for digital products as needed.
  • Work with radio and digital teams to shape and coordinate online story packages.
  • Help develop editorial guidelines for online content, as needed.
  • Maintain currency with local, national, and international news.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 4+ years of editing experience.
  • Expertise in fact-checking stories for accuracy, context, and proper attribution.
  • Working knowledge of social media.
  • Stellar organizational skills and proficiency in implementing editing workflow.
  • Sharp eye for detail.
  • Keen news judgement.
