Position Summary:

 

The Development Events Manager manages a comprehensive and diverse program of all development constituent events to raise funds, raise awareness and support the work of 89.3 KPCC, Southern California Public Radio (SCPR). He/she will lead the production of signature annual events, such as the SCPR gala, and a robust calendar of events designed to offer engagement opportunities for connection to SCPR. He/she will work in close collaboration with the entire Development leadership team and will plan and organize annual trips for SCPR donors.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage all Development events, donor travel activities and strategic fundraising and stewardship events. Work effectively across a wide range of senior management, sponsors, and other volunteers to maximize the effectiveness of each event.
  • Develop and manage event budgets, ensuring accurate financial record keeping, recording and tracking all expenditures and ensuring the best possible expenditure versus income ratio for each event is achieved.
  • For revenue-generating events such as the gala, work with the Development and Underwriting Department Directors to develop an expense plan.
  • Manage all event logistics, including invitation design, researching and booking venues and managing all vendors and suppliers (in collaboration with the Underwriting team, where relevant).
  • Act as the on-site point person for each event: troubleshooting as needed, and organize volunteers, ensuring briefs are followed and all components are in place.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers, writing and verbally delivering detailed briefs.
  • Collaborate with the Underwriting team to identify trade opportunities wherever possible and to secure gala revenue, including securing a car for raffle and silent auction items.
  • Evaluate and report on the success of each event, and travel opportunity, considering areas of improvement for future event planning.
  • Utilize Salesforce and other software and tools to keep accurate records of guest lists and plans for each event, ensuring a road map for each event is created to guide future events.
  • Work cross-departmentally to identify prospective guests for the program of each event and to develop the flow, timeline and coordinate the scripts for the event.
  • Research and analyze the events calendars for other organizations in town and make ongoing recommendations for the development of the events program.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 6+ years' work experience in fundraising, marketing, or events, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
  • Proven track record of managing and delivering high-level events.
  • Experience with donor databases, data analysis and reporting.

 

Experience, skills and technical competencies:

  • Ability to take initiative; a positive and proactive problem-solver; flexible and with strong negotiating skills.
  • Budget tracking skills, including forecasting and planning.
  • Experience working with senior staff members and volunteers.
  • Well-developed collaboration skills. An ability to communicate effectively and consistently with vendors and staff to apprise others of project status and timelines, and with other internal departments to ensure effective and efficient use of resources.
  • Professional and resourceful style; ability to multi-task in a deadline-driven environment, and to manage own time and schedules.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Passion for and authentic interest in the mission and work of Southern California Public Radio.
  • High energy level and a positive attitude.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft-based software and event management tools.

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Annual fund and/or major gift experience.
  • Experience working with the public in an external capacity.
  • Experience using Salesforce or a similar customer/donor relationship management system.
