Position Summary:

NPR's All Things Considered is one of the most popular radio shows in the country. This Producer role contributes to KPCC's local broadcast of the program, and looks for ways to deliver the most essential and engaging regional content across the air.  As a Producer, you are engaged in all aspects of the broadcast, upholding high editorial and production standards, researching, booking, writing and cutting newsmaker interviews, responding confidently to breaking and developing news, securing relevant sound and writing memorable copy.  When needed, you will stack newscasts, paying attention to story flow.

Position Responsibility:

  • Works with Senior Producer for News and host to plan coverage that is essential and magical for our audience.
  • Pitches story and interview ideas for news magazines. 
  • Researches and books newsmakers, and writes news items for host.
  • Writes and edits interviews for All Things Considered and Morning Edition.
  • Heavily contributes to overall production of the show and newscasts and ensures editorial and productions standards are met.
  • Monitors and mines social media platforms for news updates.
  • Directs the work of associate producers and interns.
  • Prepares sound and ensures produced sound is ready for air. 
  • Makes content and editorial decisions in collaboration with Sr. Producer for News, host and lead show Producer.
  • Fills in for producer of All Things Considered and when assigned, NPR'S early AM show Morning Edition.
  • Produces audio from reporters and outside news services, listening for content and quality. 
  • Works with digital team to update content on Web site. 
  • Helps train interns and new fill-in producers. 
  • Other duties as required.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Five or more years' production, editorial or related experience.


Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of local, national and international news; market knowledge preferred.
  • Excellent news judgment.
  • Ability to identify and pursue leads and newsmakers that will result in headline news.
  • Digital audio editing and field production skills.
  • Experienced researcher with excellent writing skills.
  • Proven ability to contribute to a positive, diverse, creative, high performance culture.
  • Strong leadership skills, ability to lead and manage change and advocate for program/resources/staff.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to evaluate content/quality/sound and act decisively with sound judgment.  
  • Knowledgeable in live broadcast.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure with a team and to meet deadlines. 
  • Critical reading and listening skills are required.
