Position Summary:


Marketplace is the most widely heard business show in the country -- on radio or TV -- heard by over 20 million people on radio and on demand. We're an innovative staff in the middle of an exciting transition from a traditional radio shop to an ambitious multi-platform organization. This is a place of creativity and unorthodox thinking. We don't take ourselves too seriously, even though we understand the critical importance of people understanding how the economy shapes the world around us.


The Social Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for working with Marketplace Digital to take audience engagement and conversations to a different level through on-air and online means, asking for questions, opinions, and contributions.


This is a temporary, full-time role lasting through the end of 2018.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop innovative and nimble engagement campaigns that help us reach new people ' in particular, younger and more diverse audiences
  • Ensure that we appropriately engage, respond and participate with our audience on social media
  • Be a voice representing the audience in editorial conversations, helping to translate high-level economic concepts and policies to stories relevant to people's lives
  • Monitor and engage in online conversations, serving as a voice for the audience with the editorial team
  • Understand where the audiences we want to reach live online and the best tone to reach them
  • Create engaging and shareable content
  • Facilitate conversations between our audience, hosts and reporters
  • Develop benchmarks for engagement and track our growth
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience
  • 2+ years social media experience


Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Deep interest in how economic news intersects with people's lives
  • Track record of successful online engagement campaigns
  • Creative thinker and idea generator
  • Broad understanding of and experience with social media platforms
  • Knowledge of social media listening and reporting tools
  • Ability to translate the Marketplace voice to social media
  • Resourcefulness and ability to problem-solve
  • Independence, initiative and excellent judgment
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Ability to successfully meet deadlines and handle multiple responsibilities under pressure on a consistent basis.
  • Superior communication, organizational and collaborative skills
  • Familiarity with content management systems
  • Mature self-starter with excellent editorial judgement
