Position Summary: 

The Merchandise Program offers our audiences quality branded products across the APMG portfolio of brands. The Merchandise Program Manager is responsible for redefining the merchandise program, pivoting from revenue generation to focus on building the brand and creating brand loyalty. In partnership with Marketing and Membership teams, this position will shape and implement the merchandise strategies and promotions for items available for purchase, online and at occasional in-person pop-up shops, as well as synergies with contributor thank-you gifts. While ensuring the delivery of excellent customer service, he/she is responsible for the successful operation of the program including, but not limited to, project management, account management, vendor relations and purchasing procedures, to meet or exceed revenue goals.

Position Responsibility: 

  • Works closely with Audience Development to develop and implement a merchandise strategy that reshapes the use of merchandise to build and demonstrate brand loyalty.
  • Researches and recommends vendor platforms for e-commerce.
  • Maintains vendor relationships including product suppliers and 3rd party affiliates.
  • Works with Marketing, Membership and Creative teams to develop product recommendations, assets and designs.
  • Manages a modest, but meaningful, product line, sources and orders products, and manages inventory and online sales.
  • Collaborates with Marketing to define and execute promotions.
  • Works closely with finance department on reporting and sales and adjusts as needed to maintain a cost neutral position.
  • Uses data analytics to develop and leverage an understanding of consumer behavior to inform the evolving program strategy.
  • Manages and executes email campaign strategies in conjunction with the marketing automation team.
  • Manages website maintenance with internal and external resources, as needed.
  • Ensures accurate product information across platforms.
  • Identifies and resolves problems anywhere along the pipeline from production to delivery to customer.
  • Resolves escalated customer service issues.
  • Develops and implements live event sales management process for occasional live event sales including hiring and supervising temporary staff.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing or equivalent education
  • Minimum of 5 years of project management or account management experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of retail, e-commerce operations 

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated success developing and implementing digital marketing programs
  • Experience with emerging e-commerce platforms and understanding of the digital landscape including digital marketing strategies and tactics across a range of digital channels
  • Proven ability to work across a diverse range of people and programs including the ability to effectively manage change
  • Excellent project management and organization skills
  • Ability to think strategically and analytically
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to envision and create solutions
  • Ability to adapt to an evolving merchandise strategy while maintaining program effectiveness
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and exercise good judgment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with payment processing and financial relationships 

Preferred Skills and Experience: 

  • Knowledge of web development
  • Visual design sensibility and understanding of usability principles
  • Experience using analytics to understand consumer behavior
