Position Summary: 

Marketplace is running fast toward its future transforming from a suite of radio programs to a multi-media enterprise centered around the ambition of raising the economic intelligence of all Americans. The Chief Brand Officer is a bold new position for the shop, responsible for shaping and driving our strategy to build relationships with our many existing audiences as well as identifying and reaching new ones. Help expand our reach and relevance and work side by side with an ambitious editorial shop to do it.

And you would be part of the new business leadership team that will help match our ambition with our infrastructure at a key time of investment in the operation.

 

You will be responsible for shaping the experiences and storytelling of the Marketplace brand and drive new and innovative ways to leverage Marketplace's distinctive journalism to increase the brand's relevancy and reach.  You will work with other teams to shape communications around donor messaging, social media strategy and use audience intelligence to communicate audience response, trends, behaviors and to identify new market segments.

 

You'll work closely with the Chief Content Officer and the Chief Operating Officer to identify, develop and maintain relationships that expand Marketplace's circle of ambassadors. Your dynamic leadership will articulate what audience engagement looks like across different platforms -- whether it's a live event, social media, through partnerships or our traditional broadcasts. You are audience-centric and data-informed and understand how to grow loyalty, engagement and revenue through multi-channel marketing strategies.

Position Responsibility:

  • Create and execute "best in class" marketing and communications plan for Marketplace.
  • Launch rebranding to position Marketplace as leading source of information around economic intelligence in the country.
  • Increase relevancy of Marketplace brand and develop KPIs in coordination with other parts of the organization to measure and track.
  • Partner with CCO to develop strategy for audience growth and engagement.
  • Serve as key representative of Marketplace with external constituencies and lead marketing relationships in partnership and sponsorship space.
  • Work with GM of Marketplace to develop a strong Marketplace Board of Advisors.
  • Responsible for overseeing all marketing initiatives, including brand development, PR, social media, partnerships, digital marketing, audience engagement and conversion to contribution.
  • Maximize internal assets to drive brand initiatives across all channels.
  • Coordinate with parent company around current brand standards and practices, where appropriate.
  • Drive significant awareness and trial of programming and increase loyalty to the brand.
  • Work cross-functionally in a matrix organizational structure, collaborating with Marketplace/APM leaders.
  • Hire, supervise, train, and manage direct staff through providing work direction, constructive performance coaching, mentorship, performance meetings, and on-going feedback. 
  • Foster a creative and productive work environment. 
  • Create development opportunities and individualized development plans for staff and training to enhance skills and foster growth.

Required Education and Experience:

  • 8-10 years' experience, with background in marketing strategy
  • Knowledge of media, experience in national media environment
  • 3-5 years' experience managing teams and communications
  • Proven track record with social media strategy
  • Budget management experience
  • Understanding of Customer Relationship Management

  • Able to negotiate, compromise and facilitate success among diverse work groups.
  • Knowledge of balanced scorecards and management dashboards.
  • Able to develop and manage budgets.
  • Able to honor high degree of confidentiality.

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Non-profit work experience and/or business knowledge of the non-profit sector.
  • Proven success as an inspiriting, empowering leader who is committed to employee growth and development.
  • Master's degree  
  • Familiarity with trends in data science and predictive analytics
