Position Summary:

The Classical Music Intern will assist with all aspects of Classical Minnesota Public Radio and American Public Media's day-to-day operations.  The Classical Music Intern will gain experience working across the department including with APM's national programs (Performance Today, SymphonyCast, and Pipe Dreams); with the Program Director, Music Director, and on-air hosts on the day-to-day production and operations of KSJN, Classical 24, YourClassical, and live events/broadcasts; pitching, writing, and building content for Digital; and participate in bringing classical music to local schools with CMPR's education team.  In addition, the Classical Music Intern will have the opportunity to work with various departments across the company including Marketing, Finance, Development, and Membership.         

Interns also have the opportunity for basic training in audio editing and running a studio session.  This position will have access to in-studio performances by musicians from around the world. 

Internship timeframe: July 1, 2017 December 31, 2017

Position Responsibility:

  • Audition and accurately log concert/CD metadata into the MusicMaster database
  • Log interview tape and transcribe live interviews
  • Assist with program research on music and guests
  • Assist with the recording of in-studio performances
  • Other tasks as assigned

Required Education and Experience: 

  • High school diploma or GED 

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated interest in, knowledge of, and passion for classical music
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work independently, and can identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
  • Ability to learn new computer programs upon request
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to transcribe and process related concert information
  • An alert and resourceful approach to production adjustments under deadline 

Preferred Skills and Experience: 

  • Preference given to applicants with a working knowledge of classical music
  • Preference given to applicants currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, and recent graduates (within 2 years)

  • Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation

    • Required to move about in an office environment and sit for extended periods of time
    • Required to move about in the community
    • Frequent use of hands for data entry/keystrokes and simple grasping
  • Working Conditions:
    • Moderate noise level
    • Occasional exposure to prevalent weather conditions

 

Interns will be compensated on an hourly basis. Our offices are located in downtown Saint Paul, Minnesota. Relocation allowance is not available. Parking or bus pass reimbursed. More information about American Public Media is available online: www.americanpublicmedia.org.
