APMG's primary operating divisions Minnesota Public Radio, Southern California Public Radio and American Public Media offer multi-regional FM broadcast channels, website, mobile and social media channels, live events, national content creation and distribution. Together, these divisions operate 49 public radio stations and 42 translators serving regional audiences in eight states from Minnesota, Michigan and the Upper Midwest to Idaho and California; distribute a portfolio of more than twenty national programs reaching nearly 20MM listeners weekly through 1,000 radio stations; serve rapidly growing audiences on digital, social and mobile platforms; and produce an increasing and diverse array of podcasts featuring the best in food, culture, entertainment, mental health, water, early brain development, business and investigative journalism. 

Your Role:

We are looking for a strategic, highly collaborative individual to lead marketing efforts and audience strategy for three key teams that engage the public around critical issues: The Water Main, Call to Mind (mental health), and APM Research Lab. As the Marketing Manager for Content Initiatives, you will work across many functional areas: content/editorial, research, marketing, digital, PR/communications, partnership development and corporate giving, and more. You will be the lead for all marketing strategies and tactics to promote the programs and brands included in these content initiatives.

Position Responsibility:

  • Serve as primary marketer for APM's three national content initiatives.
  • Work closely with leads of each content initiative to develop a clear target, audience strategy, and marketing objectives for the program.
  • Develop and execute detailed ongoing communication plans, budgets, and tactical recommendations.
  • Identify and implement new activities that drive deeper connections with partners and their national audiences.
  • Act as liaison between internal partners and the creative team to manage identified projects establish timelines, gather complete information necessary for production, work with client on purpose and effectiveness of elements.
  • Lead B2B communication with key partners and trade publications to help build brand presence, industry influence, and partnerships.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or related subject area; OR equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience developing and managing marketing campaigns.
  • Experience working with consumer research to develop data-driven and insight-driven marketing strategies and tactics.
  • Experience developing and executing on communication strategies.
  • Experience in managing multiple programs and clients, both internal and external.
  • Experience in writing marketing copy and key message points.
  • Experience in implementing multidimensional and experiential marketing projects, including special events and conferences.
  • Experience in online/social media marketing and digital marketing technologies.

  • Ability to provide strategic direction and lead strategic discussions.

  • An enthusiasm for the product and company.
  • A familiarity with and specific interest in public radio, its programs and audiences.
  • A familiarity with and/or specific interest in public radio programming.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience or specific interest in public service journalism or any of the areas covered by the initiatives (eg: water/environment, mental health, research/politics/data-driven journalism).
  • Experience promoting consumer brands in an agency or in-house environment.
  • Experience in media/radio/editorial settings.
  • Experience with grant-funded work or other externally funded partner relationships.
