Position Summary:

The Events Manager will be responsible for a comprehensive and diverse program of events to deepen relationships with existing audience, create relationships with new audiences, and support organizational goals with regard to mission-driven journalism, brand, revenue, and audience engagement. They will foster collaborations with internal and external partners through events and activities in The Crawford Family Forum (CFF) at Southern California Public Radio's Mohn Broadcast Center and off-site in the communities of Southern California.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage a dynamic portfolio of events with a diverse range of strategic goals. Work effectively across a wide range of senior management, donors, sponsors, and other internal and external stakeholders to maximize each event.
  • Individually lead and produce events in the CFF and in the community in accordance with strategic goals. These events will be produced in collaboration with a variety of internal and external partners. This includes identifying programmatic elements such as event format/structure, venue, subject matter, conversation frames, prospective guests, visual elements, and managing and/or coordinating the execution of audience-facing messaging as well as audience development, engagement, and partnership opportunities.
  • Collaborate with  senior management and other SCPR teams and departments to identify event-related business opportunities to support strategic goals with regard to brand, revenue, and audience. 
  • Manage and/or coordinate all aspects of events, in collaboration with other department leads. Inclusive of: program and audience experience design, marketing/promotion plan and assets, FOH & ticketing, venue relations, and managin all vendors and suppliers.
  • Identify, support, achieve, and track overall and individual event-related goals and KPIs. 
  • Develop and manage event budgets, ensuring accurate financial record keeping, recording and tracking all expenditures, and ensuring the best possible expenditure versus ROI ratio for each event is achieved.
  • For revenue-generating events, work with other internal stakeholders to develop an expense plan.
  • Act as the on-site point person for each event: troubleshooting as needed, and organizing event, production, and venue staff, volunteers, and ensuring successful event execution.
  • Evaluate and report on the success of each event, considering areas of improvement for future event planning.
  • Utilize internal systems and tools to maximize internal communication, efficiency, and accurate record keeping, ensuring a road map for each event is created to guide future events.
  • In coordination with the Managing Producer and other key staff, initiate, manage and/or coordinate the acquisition, cultivation and stewardship of relationships with potential individual, community, and organizational partners through outreach and attendance to public and/or by-invitation forums, discussions, and events hosted by said individual, community, and organizational partners. 
  • Research and analyze the events/calendars for other organizations in town and make ongoing recommendations for the development of the events platform.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years' work experience in events, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
  • Proven track record of managing and delivering high-level events.
  • Familiarity and experience with community events and/or outreach efforts.
  • Experience with audience data, data analysis and reporting.

Experience, skills and technical competencies

  • Ability to take initiative; a positive and proactive problem-solver; flexible and with strong negotiating skills.
  • Budget tracking skills, including forecasting and planning.
  • Experience working with senior staff members and volunteers.
  • Well-developed collaboration skills. An ability to communicate effectively and consistently with vendors and staff to apprise others of project status and timelines, and with other internal departments to ensure effective and efficient use of resources.
  • Ability to maintain productive and positive communication with co-workers.
  • Equally successful with representatives of a wide range of sectors from large corporations to grassroots nonprofits.
