Position Summary:


The Marketplace portfolio of programs has nearly 15 million weekly listeners, and over the next five years our strategic plan dramatically builds on that strong foundation. The digital and social landscape is changing rapidly, and we're looking for a social media expert to help us reach more people with our mission through those platforms.

The temporary Social & Digital Marketing Strategist is a five-month project to help us maintain and shape how social audiences interact with, experience and discover Marketplace. This role reports to the Chief Brand Officer, with a dotted line to the Executive Director of Digital.  You must understand Marketplace's audience across platforms broadcast, digital and social and work with the CBO & the EDD to develop strategies to grow audiences everywhere. Position Responsibility:

  • Maintain established digital marketing strategy to identify, engage and grow Marketplace's audience (website, social, podcast)
  • Own creation of sophisticated social paid campaigns, tracking, reporting and management of paid budget
  • Own and maintain brand relationships with major social and distribution platforms
  • Develop cross-platform digital marketing plans for initiatives that drive to measurable growth and engagement
  • Oversees the design and development of creative materials for all platforms, making sure it's up to brand standard and optimized for mobile audiences.
  • Manage and oversee work of social video and content producers, directing work and content strategy
  • Manage flow, content and cadence of social posting, with oversight from EDD
  • Maximize Marketplace's daily digital content with creative and thoughtful solutions
  • Own social media reporting
  • Proactively identify and share digital, social and platform trends
  • Partners with the Executive Director of Digital and internal corporate stakeholders on company-wide digital marketing best practices
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications or relevant field
  • Five or more years of experience in social marketing and/or digital marketing
  • Proficient in photoshop
  • Experience with and knowledge of all the major social platforms
  • Extensive knowledge and execution of paid social media
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Ability to understand digital benchmarking and analyze success against key metrics
  • Experience working with multiple departments in complex organizations; is flexible and resilient
  • Inspires confidence; can set expectations and effectively manage to them; strong relationship builder
  • Strong news judgment
  • Self-starter comfortable in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to think strategically while comfortable with project management details
  • Ability to represent digital marketing discipline throughout the company and externally
  • Demonstrated high degree of initiative and accountability. A great sense of humor is a plus.
  • Ability to participate in strategic discussions with leaders and external stakeholders.
  • Leadership qualities of confidence, judgment, and integrity.
