Fellow, Finance

You will help provide new insight by creating management and financial reports to improve data-based decision making. Specifically, you will gather and analyze business unit reporting needs; and help develop a repeatable process of summarized financial reporting focusing on matters that are significant and actionable. In addition, you will conduct internal audits and provide recommendations to strengthen our system of internal controls and increase readiness for the annual financial statement audit.

 

Key Learning Goals:

  1. Financial Reporting and Analysis Expand upon your financial reporting principles, documentation of requirements, data structures, use of reporting tools, and creation of new reports.
  2. Internal Audit -- Learn and conduct the process and procedures of an internal audit.
  3. Internal Controls -- Analyze business processes and evaluate the effectiveness including the related internal controls.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Analysis and Reporting - Coordinate reporting requirements, learn data structures / reporting tools, and create / revise reports to summarize the matters that are significant and actionable to the business unit.
  2. Internal Audit - Plan and perform internal audits, document selected transactions are appropriate and processed in accordance with written policies and procedures. Appropriately address questionable items.
  3. Communication & Problem Solving - Identify questions and coordinate a resolution with the appropriate internal subject matter expert. Document your conclusions and recommendations.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of professional experience in Accounting, Finance or related field OR enrolled or have graduated in a graduate program.
  • Training in and or experience with internal management reporting/analysis, data structures, and reporting tools.
  • Interest in a career and or experience in finance, accounting, auditing.
  • Critical thinking, planning, and analytical abilities;
  • Communication: active listening, ability to prepare written summaries and documentation of procedures, effectively request information, and tactfully address and escalate matters of concern.
  • Effective problem solving.
  • Determination and perseverance.
  • Information tools: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Familiar with and willing to learn financial reporting concepts, internal controls, and auditing concepts.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in internal or external financial reporting, and analysis.
  • Prior experience with data and report writing tools.
  • Prior experience in bookkeeping, accounting or auditing.
  • Prior leadership and coordination experience (e.g. student group, clubs, work experience, etc.).
