Intern, Inspired by You Campaign - Philanthropic Development

Inspired by You is a $75M campaign which comes to a close in June 2020. It's been very successful and there is a lot to do as the campaign wraps up, especially as we steward and celebrate our major gift and institutional donors. As the Intern, Inspired by You Campaign, YOU will work with people across the development team across the areas of communication, events, research, and stewardship. This will all support the institutional, planned and major gifts, and events teams meet their mid-year goals.

Key Learning Goals:

  1. A comprehensive overview of how philanthropic development for public media functions on an annual basis from the most basic levels - prospecting, CRM management, internal communications - to highest levels of event execution, grant writing, and stewardship of major campaign donors.
  2. Build specific skills around web and database research to broaden our pool of donors for restricted funding for early education, mental health, water, and new media content development. Manage and vet new prospects to our development team for viability and qualification. Build familiarity with MN Common Grant Application.

The position will split time between Campaign and Institutional Giving.

  1. Communications and Writing: A desire to explore multiple communication styles with the desire and drive to learn about internal and external communications in person and in writing. As the Campaign approaches its conclusion, stewardship of our donors offers an excellent opportunity for up-and-coming writers or development professional to learn this important work. Institutional Giving will provide an opportunity to understand how grant and report writing are different from the major and planned giving communications which are focused on individuals.
  2. Research: An aptitude for and desire to explore web-based research to in order to develop prospect lists for end-of-campaign, annual fund, and restricted giving opportunities for MPR Philanthropic Development staff. This supplements the current research team by creating initial lists using tools like the Foundation Directory Online database.
  3. Team Coordination: Develop a cohesive tracking system which coordinates internal communication ecosystems on WAVE, Slack, Google docs, and various archives systems including our Diversity and Inclusion Culture work and Employee Resource Group goals. This tracking system will not sunset when the intern departs but remain a dynamic document for Phil Dev support.
