Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) is one of the nation's premier public radio stations producing programming for radio, digital and live audiences and operates a 46-station radio network serving nearly all of Minnesota and parts of surrounding states. Reaching 1 million listeners each week, MPR and its three regional services 'MPR NewsClassical MPR and The Current' produce programming for radio, digital and live audiences.

Its multi-regional station operations include 49 public radio stations and 42 translators in the Upper Midwest and California.

Your Role:

As the Host, you will do air-shifts on The Current, including live and recorded shifts during the weekdays and weekends.

Position is Part-Time (2-5 hrs per week)

Position Responsibility:

  • Schedule and perform live and voice-tracked air shifts filled with inventive music and compelling breaks.
  • Operate the broadcast board, play to air system, and all studio equipment.
  • Perform voice overs for shows, content, and promos.
  • Interview musicians and others as needed.
  • Prepares for, conducts, and produces interviews with various guests.
  • Writes for the web including album reviews, blog posts, and features as assigned.
  • Participates in the promotion of Minnesota Public Radio, including public appearances and on-air fundraising activities. 
  • Understands and complies with FCC Broadcast Regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • BA or equivalent experience required.
  • 1-3 years of relevant broadcast experience is required.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and passion for the music played on The Current.
  • Engaging on-air presence.
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm about ways to bring new listeners to the station.
  • Ability to work with others, under stressful deadline conditions, in a goal oriented, "team" environment.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the current music scene/community in the Twin Cities and throughout Minnesota.
  • Ability to develop contacts and professional relationships in the Minnesota music community.
  • Fluency in social media and blogs.
  • Knowledge of public radio system including its stations and audience composition; a listener to public radio.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of Music Master and Dalet is helpful.
  • Experience in announcing and production is preferred.

  • Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Physical Demands: 
    • Required to move about in an office environment and sit for extended periods of time.
    • Frequent use of hands for data entry/keystrokes and simple grasping.  
  • Working Conditions: 
    • Moderate noise level.
    • Occasional exposure to prevalent weather conditions.
