Position Summary:

The Talent Acquisition and Development Manager will provide leadership and hands-on recruitment expertise for Southern California Public Radio (SCPR). This position partners with management to grow our diverse workforce and support an inclusive environment. 

While the primary duties relate to talent acquisition, this role will have responsibilities related to employee relations, training, organizational development, coaching, succession planning, etc., to directly support the employees of Southern California Public Radio.

Position Responsibility:

  • Partner with management to develop a strategic planning process, to include analysis and action plans to fill current and future exempt and non-exempt positions in response to business needs.
  • Create and promote programs to cultivate and develop a diverse talent pipeline.
  • Identify, develop and nurture internal and external talent pipelines through career pathing and external sourcing to ensure we hire and retain exceptional talent.
  • Lead the use of relevant and progressive sourcing strategies (i.e., social media, digital tools, etc.) to actively seek out talent at all levels who embody our core values and reflect the diversity of our audiences.
  • Regularly review and update our talent acquisition processes and services, sources and selection methods for all levels of positions through metrics and cost analysis; continuously seek and drive process improvement to meet business and diversity objectives.
  • Partner and builds relationships with senior leaders, managers, and staff across the organization.
  • Develop/support the relationships/partnerships we have with like-minded journalistic diversity organizations, such as the NABJ, AAJA, NAHJ, etc. and continuously seek out new organizations and opportunities that align with our business strategies.
  • Scout talent at events and conferences and manage university relationships with top tier journalism programs to benefit SCPR, Marketplace and APMG to ensure a continuing, diverse pipeline for the APMG companies.
  • Manage candidate information through our ATS and progressively utilize technology for efficient communication, selection, hiring and onboarding of applicants/employees.
  • Collaborate with HR colleagues to provide managers with coaching, advice, support, and training on performance management principles, guidelines, procedures and best practices.
  • Participate and work effectively with HR colleagues for consistency of HR policy and programs across APMG.
  • Ensure company compliance with all Federal and State employment laws, including Fair Employment Practices, Equal Employment Opportunity, and Wage and Hour laws.
  • Keep abreast of changing industry trends and strategize future business needs.
  • Provide strategic and tactical HR support for SCPR management and employees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years' combined experience in recruiting and HR generalist responsibilities.
  • Diversity recruitment experience required.
  • Strong HRIS and ATS skills and experience required.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Strong computer skills including Word, Excel and Outlook. Self-sufficiency and a willingness to embrace new software, programs, and systems as needed.
  • Proven track record of outstanding customer service, problem-solving, negotiating and mediation skills.
  • Knowledge and experience using social media and digital tools for recruiting and promoting SCPR brand.
  • Competent knowledge of California and Federal employment law, raising legal issues to the appropriate level.
  • Engagement, discretion and confidentiality are essential.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Hands-on knowledge of relevant sourcing strategies for talent in public media/journalistic or broadcast industry highly preferred.
  • Experience in media, broadcast or digital journalistic industries.
  • Knowledge of public radio, radio broadcasting, and audio production preferred.
  • Capable and comfortable working in a decentralized recruiting environment.
  • Experience in a multi-location, national organization preferred.
  • Ability to create PowerPoint presentations, preferred.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • A modest amount of overnight travel is required nationally; 5-6 times per year for 2-4 days at a time.
  • Ability to represent APMG at local career fairs.
  • Physical Demands: 
    • Required to move about in an office environment and sit for extended periods of time
    • Required to move about in the community
    • Frequent use of hands for data entry/keystrokes and simple grasping.  
  • Working Conditions: 
    • Moderate noise level
    • Occasional exposure to prevalent weather conditions.
