Position Summary:

Marketplace is hiring a full-time Social Video Associate Producer to create short, snackable videos that help raise the economic intelligence of the country. Do you love making social videos that drive awareness and engagement? Are you a pro at grabbing people's attention in the newsfeed? Are you always finding ways to improve video retention? Then this could be the job for you!

The Social Video Associate Producer will pitch and edit highly shareable social videos, and work closely with the on demand and digital team to create concise, entertaining, educational content that appeals to a broad audience. The associate producer will experiment and collaborate as we identify the visual form and style that best expresses Marketplace's mission and voice in social video.

You should be comfortable in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, demonstrate strong judgement, and have excellent visual journalism and storytelling abilities.

This position requires expertise in the Adobe Creative Suite and the ability to create basic compositions in After Effects.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Create highly shareable, mobile-first videos for Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, as well as any emerging social platforms. You're a pro at making thumbs pause in the newsfeed and having audiences watch more than 3 seconds.
  • Pitch, produce and edit social videos that fit Marketplace's content strategy.
  • Find relevant content throughout the day to use for social videos and clear the use of that media. You'll also be sourcing and editing video clips from Getty, AP and other content suppliers as well as original content.
  • Write punchy and concise scripts in a timely manner.
  • Strong understanding of motion graphics and text on video for both square and vertical formats.
  • Collect assets and b-roll to integrate into social videos.
  • Must be comfortable with data and leveraging data-driven insights to optimize videos for the social audience.
  • Source and edit music / SFX from audio library.
  • Stay ahead of the curve on social media platforms and social video best practices.
  • Innovate with new video editing techniques and approaches to stand out in newsfeeds.
  • Conceptualize and build graphics and titles for all videos.
  • Work with producers on story and structure of videos.
  • Maintain proper file structure and naming conventions.
  • Work collaboratively across the shop with hosts, and multiplatform producers.
  • Help foster a creative and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 
Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of video experience.
  • 2+ years of audio or radio experience.
  • Experience editing digital audio.
  • Experience working on a show or podcast, preferably national.

 
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Experience editing video for same-day turn or on weekly deadlines.
  • Excellent news judgment and idea generation. Ability to take a news story and develop a sharp, distinct angle.
  • Demonstrated skill in Adobe Premiere and After Effects.
  • Committed to driving high retention for all social videos.
  • Must be comfortable with data and leveraging data-driven insights to optimize videos and deepen engagement.
  • Knowledge of current social media and social video trends; experience posting on social and web.
  • Resourcefulness and ability to problem-solve.
  • Independence, initiative and excellent judgment.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Strong critical judgment skills and the ability to make decisions regarding credibility, personality and value of material to program.
  • Ability to successfully meet deadlines and handle multiple responsibilities under pressure on a consistent basis.
  • Strong research skills.
  • Superior communication, organizational and collaborative skills.
  • Prior experience in news or journalism a plus.

 
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
